The Story Behind the Project

The Women?s Bean Project employs women who come from backgrounds of chronic unemployment and poverty, and helps them develop the work and interpersonal skills needed to function independently in the workplace and community.

Poverty and chronic unemployment are caused by a constellation of issues--lack of education, single parenthood, history of addiction and incarceration, poor problem solving--that magnify one another and are repeated across generations.

Women?s Bean Project is a social enterprise that offers a transitional job in gourmet food manufacturing designed to provide immediate income, arrange support services to overcome barriers to employment, and teach the job readiness skills needed to get and keep a job.

Since 1989, Women?s Bean Project has helped women develop the work and interpersonal skills and address the basic needs required for moving up the path toward personal and economic self sufficiency. With this stepping stone toward success, the women will be able to support themselves and their families, and create stronger role models for future generations.

The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.

Good gift for a good cause (CherylRG, MA, 2008-06-02)
 
I bought this as a gift for my mom for Mother's Day. I liked it because the money goes to a good cause, and also because my mother enjoys making soups and using rubs on meat. I haven't seen it yet, but my mom told me it is very nice and packaged well too. The next time I visit her, we're going to make one of the soups together! :)

I sent this to all my relatives back East this year for the holidays and they loved it! Great free shipping. On one of the orders one of the boxes was forgotten but was quickly and courteously replaced before Christmas. I'll be back again next year for something similar.
