Painted in the same period as 'Cafe Terrace, September 1888,' 'The Pool Room' (also known as 'The Night Cafe') was also located in Arles. Mimicking drunken sensations, Van Gogh accentuates the energy of the lights overhead with energetic strokes combined with feeling of heat from the reds and yellows. The room feels brightly lit as tables with used glasses accompanying men slumped over tables. This is a van Gogh snapshot of a moment frozen in time.
