awesome bed! (Laura02420, Lexington, Massachusetts, 2008-01-21)

I loved the look of this bed and after reading the reviews I decided to buy it. The following may be helpful for someone assembling this alone, without handyman help. It was delivered in 3 boxes-box 1 @ 69.96 lbs., box 2 @ 42.9 lbs., and box 3 @ 50.6 lbs. After checking through all the contents of the boxes I found that the headboard had a crack at one corner in a tongue and groove joint. I chose to do live Chat with customer service, they sent out another box 1 and a week later it arrived. I studied the instructions while I awaited delivery of the replacement headboard. Assembly wasn't that bad. After reading the comments I prepared myself with a ratcheting tool kit, that included a flexible shaft attachment (very handy) as well as different sized screwdriver and hex bit attachments, I also bought a small rubber mallet. *A note on the wooden dowels that are to be used-I found that the dowels slid very easily into the leg portion of the headboard assembly but wouldn't go into the pre-drilled holes in the headboard itself past the rounded tip. I didn't want to use the mallet to hammer it home, I was afraid I might crack headboard #2. So I took a pair of pliers and squeezed down the circumference of half of the dowel and left the other half of it alone and both ends went into the pre-drilled holes fine. I used the foot board as a prop up place for the side rails as I attached them to the headboard legs. Just do one screw into the head and then one into the foot and when that is set you can screw in the remaining screws. I think I took about 2.5-3 hours to assemble the bed myself over 2 days. When it was finished I found the wooden slats that support the mattress to be too rough, and I didn't want to do any damage to the underside of my Select Comfort mattress, so I placed an interlocking plastic base from my previous Select Comfort bed's "foundation" on top of the slats. And now, here are the measurements I was looking for when I previously went through the comments: with the 1inch plastic base I added and the 10 inch thickness for the mattress, that left 16 inches of the headboard showing. The finished mattress height is at 26 inches and that's perfect for me (I am 5' 7" tall), I don't feel as if I have to climb into it and I don't feel as if I am falling into it. I love this bed! Very solid, no creaking or squeaking when I sleep in it. I highly recommend it!

Beautiful Contempory with classic Feel (5354, CT, 2008-01-30)

Thanks for all the reviews so I geared up with the tools that will help speed up the assembling...flexible drill extension and the necessary drill bits since I have an 18W coreless drill. I'm a female and took me 5 hours by myself in no rush putting the bed together. The longest time for me is actually screwing the slats down and measured out the even distance from both sides. 3 things I found were harder for me are some of the wood picks were really tight to hammer all the way into the hole. The screws are kind of hard to screw all the way in with my drill so I had to use the hand screw driver to screw the last bit in. (Later, I got advise put the screw tips into a soap will help, but that's for you to find out). Also there were 2 bolts that connect the side rail to the head and footboard was extremely hard to turn so the drill and flexible extension I had didn't work and needed to use the allen key. Not biggie, if I can do it, you can too. I also found the legs in the center is not long enough to reach the floor but perhaps when screwing the rubber end at the bottom of each leg to adjust the difference. Not too sure what the purpose of those legs for as I don’t think without them will do any harm since the bed is solid enough and with the memory foam mattress I have, it will absolve any pressure. Tip for putting this bed together by yourself. You can use some of the foam blocks that comes in the package to rinse one end of the bed to the same level (close enough) when bolting the 1st end in to the headboard or footboard. Although the finishing is very nice with today's technology but definitely no solid wood but who can tell!

Get ready to work!! (dannigirl36, Poteet, Tx, 2008-01-07)

I bought this bed and my poor husband had the job of assembling it. He's really good with his hands. But this bed took him a good 3-4 hours to put together. He thought it was going to take him at least 1 hour or so. Not!!!! He even had our son help out. Lots of assembly is required with this bed. Lots of slats on the bottom so you won't need a box spring with this bed. We left ours on but with the 8-inch Memory Foam mattress we bought for this bed. I felt like the Princess and the Pea! ha ha Plus you couldn't really see the head board. So we ended up taking the box spring off the bed. It was really time consuming for my husband. But we were both pleased with the end result of the bed. Beautiful!!! Also I saw in another review that the front of the bed is perfect for hitting your knees on when you come around the bed. That is so true!!! My husband hits his knees EVERY time he rounds the corner of that bed! Ouch!

Great looking bed. Not easy to assemble. (KMatt, Manchester, NH, 2008-01-25)

The Tribeca is a great looking, solid bed. The rubber wood has a nice grain and a good, sturdy feel. The assembly of the head board is as bad as every other review says it is. The slots that you have to put screws into are extremely narrow and only allows you to turn the provided allen wrench less than a 1/4 of a turn. Then you have to pull the wrench and reset it for the next turn. This part of the bed is poorly designed. It will take you at least an hour to to put the 8 screws into the head board. However, having said that, the rest of the bed goes fairly quickly. It'll take about another hour to put the rest of it together. You may be able to reduce that if you have a helper. Overall, I am very happy with the look and functionality of this bed. A great value for the money, if you don't mind spending the time to put together. I paired this with a 10" memory foam mattress and it looks fantastic.

Don't Miss Out on This One (pg208, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 2008-02-04)

The Tribeca bed makes a great statement. The packaging (as told by other reviewers) was excellent. The shipment was quick. The pieces were flawless. Other reviewers advised on using a ball hex wrench. We did not know what this was and proceeded without it. We got it together, but suspect that the ball hex wrench would have saved a lot of time and energy. Also, have a rubber mallot handy. All the hardware was there, plus one extra of everything. The instructions request that the slats be placed 80 mm apart. We found an object that measured a little over 3 inches and placed it among the slats as we drilled them into the frame down one side, then down the opposite side. I really like the look of this bed. The only drawback is the limited amount of accompanying pieces that are offered. However, the design's simplicity and walnut shade should not make it hard to find other pieces.
