Great set but skip if you travel a lot (SWH12984, Austin, TX, 2008-01-04)

Let me preface this with saying that I bought a different Traveler's Choice set in 2000 that I have used and still use until now. I have had to add new roller wheels to the suitcases and ditch the carry-on, but otherwise, no complaints. This set went on two international trips per year and the medium sized bag went on a couple of other trips per year. I was IMPRESSED with this luggage so I bought the second set... OK, so about this set. I bought this set in October 2007 because of an upcoming trip to French Polynesia. Air Tahiti Nui had strict limitations on the dimensions of luggage (L+H+W), which ruled out the largest of the "old" luggage. Also, since we were going for 17 days and had to be able to handle our own luggage (ferries, etc..), we were limited with the number of bags we could bring but needed a large suitcase. So the luggage arrived in October. We took all three pieces in addition to another carryon. The luggage survived Austin to LAX fine, including transfers to the shuttle to the overnight hotel to the shuttle to the airport to the airport screening machines for our flight from LAX to PPT. When we arrived in Tahiti, the top handle on the medium bag and the side handle on the large bag both tore at one end. The bags were weighed in both AUS and LAX and neither exceeded the 50 lb weight limit. The other side of the medium bag tore at the other rivet when I tried to use the remainder to position it onto the customs screening device (basically the entire top handle tore off). Needless to say, it was miserable trying to deal with the luggage after that point. Otherwise, this was a good set. LOL. I just don't know what to think about it. I wouldn't buy this particular set but the last Traveler's Choice set was good once we replaced the wheels. Thanks, Heather P.S. I am an Engineer which is why I detail so much

c+ but shoulda bought an A- (Korynl, Statn Island, NY, 2008-05-11)

I opted to wait a few months to review this product. Overstock surprised me with my two purchases on the quick delivery and packaging. I will purchase from them again. Now on to the luggage product in question. I scrutinized several sites and needed luggage fast with reliable quality AND with a bit of a unique style (black luggage was not going to work for me), for very little money. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived, although, I apparently forgot I really wanted swivel rollers. In any case, I travel a great deal. It has held up exceptionally. Since I purchased it I have traveled 7 times via airplane (we all know that luggage is not handled with love and tenderness) and there is no issue with durability. I am disappointed that just the front is in red and the rest is black. Since I travel many times a year, I do not want to search for my luggage, and I have to search, because it inevitably ends up face down on the luggage carousel with the black showing up...not the happy red. I have also noticed that it is attracted to dirt. It just sucks up dirt and wears it proudly like a kid wears their new clothes on the first day of school. Although durable, and well made, I am having a problem with the larger piece of luggage. It will hold EVERYTHING, including the kitchen sink. I am sure if I put the kitchen sink in, I could still fit my entire wardrobe....however, be careful, and the new airline rules do not apply to this train of thought. It will hold well up to a thousand pounds....or at least 70 pounds, and this is not the industry standards for domestic travel. In short, it is a great set for the casual traveler, but for and avid mover and shaker, spend the extra hundred bucks and get the swivel that weighs less, and pick a luggage you can recognize as soon as it arrives on the carousel with a penchant to deflect dirt.

Good luggage, value priced (giulietta1, TX, 2008-07-30)

I needed a bigger suitcase, so I started out looking for single pieces. After some shopping around online, I determined I could get this set for just a little more than I'd pay for a decent single suitcase. So far, this set has been with me on one camping trip and one plane trip. It has held up fine, nothing damaged. Some features of this luggage that I really like: Each upright has handles on THREE sides! The wheels are GREAT. They roll very smoothly. Shoe pockets and a mesh pocket are incorporated into the inside lid of each upright. Two exterior zippered pockets on the front of each upright. These are features that I associate with more expensive luggage! The three handles are especially nice; I have a bag that has only one handle, on the upper, short end, and it is REALLY a nuisance not to have a handle on the long side. I've noticed only one real disadvantage so far: the carry-on (20" upright) is rather tip-prone. The lining seems a little flimsy and may not last well. I'd recommend this luggage to the occasional traveler. I doubt it will last 20 years, but at the price it's a great deal!

Best buy ever (gearls9745, Cincinnati, OH, 2008-01-26)

I bought this luggage set years ago on Overstock.com and cannot believe seeing it again on the Overstock home page. As many times as our family has travelled with it this set it certainly took some beating, especially on air travel. The variation of sizes is perfect for all occations: short overnight business trips or 4 week vacation. Our set still works and looks like on the first day other than some scratches. Zippers are the best (you will not find your suitcase popped open at the baggage claim), and the wheels and handle arrangements are great to move around and even load up on it (have you ever watched people picking up the suitcase every few steps because the suitcase tipped while pulling, won't happen with these). Just be carfully not to overpack the extra-large suitcase for airtravel, otherwise you will find yourself repacking at the airport because of the weight limit, like I did :). Buying this set is money well spent!

Unique Set (sunnykme, Youngstown, OH, 2008-02-05)

I was very pleased to see, first of all, that the red and black luggage I ordered was not an obnoxious red. The photo on the site was a bit deceiving, the red is almost like a tweed apperance, but only on the front of the bags, the remainder is all black. I was very concerned that I would have luggage that was indishtinguishable from the others coming around the carousel, but this is unique enough to recognize immediately. The size is outstanding! I travel for two and three week stretches and as a woman, I take a whole heck of a lot of stuff with me. This luggage leaves me with room to spare. The hand bag is the only part that was small, but it's perfect for cramming in books, mp3 players, accessories and medication. I have already recommended this great product to several of my traveling buddies. I get tons of compliments on it as well!
