nice starter watch for kids (BrooklynDad, Brooklyn, NY, 2008-01-13)

This is a nice looking watch and, most important, my kids (7 years old) can easily put it on themselves thanks to the Velcro band. It's a comfortable watch and not bulky, unlike many gadgety kids' watches (try reading that protruding Darth Vader watch under your winter jacket... you'd be lucky to get your sleeve pulled back over it). The watch is easy to set (pull out the knob and turn it) and it shows the day of the month as well. Push in the knob and the watch starts ticking (audibly if you put it right next to your ear). There must be an internal battery, because you don't wind it. When the knob is pushed in, if you push it, the watch face glows nicely for viewing in dark conditions. Not sure how durable it is, but one of my kids scratched the plastic face within a day or two. It's supposed to be water resistant, which is nice. I purposely bought a watch with hands, so my kids would get more comfortable telling time. They like the watches, and so do I.
