Best Sleep in a Decade!!! (OnHerFeetAllDayinIL, TheSnowbelt, IL., 2008-04-01)
 
I had gone with my husband to get a new mattress as he had been complaining about our bed for sometime and I did want him to get a good night's sleep as he has very long days and comes home exhausted. To also get a poor night's rest due to the quality of a mattress was not good. So I dragged him to a mattress store where he tried all the mattresses and finally settled on a $2500 one! We had a year interest free to pay it off so we took the plunge and got it. However, tho he was gleeful, I found it like sleeping on a rock! So much for similarities in tastes. I could not get comfortable no matter what and likened it to our last mattress which was also high -priced, but still had not been comfortable. So when I happened upon this Serta Mattress topper, I decided to give it a try. It came looking like a smashed stick of chewing gum. I could not believe this thing would ever puff up and work out. I even called customer service stating such. But within a few hours, the entire thing had come to look as pictured. It was nearly the size of our California King mattress too whereas other plain form toppers I had purchased previously had been way too short. I heaved it up and set it in place and then put my sheet set over it. Then I tried it along with my daughter. It was like laying on a cloud! All the kids piled into the bed to try it out and I did not think I would ever get them off it!!! It was That comfortable. We waited with baited breath till my husband came home and climbed into bed that night. He likes a firm mattress so I worried this would be too soft as I had found it so wonderful. However, within a few seconds, he declared he was never getting up again! I have had no trouble getting comfortable since. Neither has Hubby. His feet no longer fall asleep during the night nor do I get pressure points that cause pain due to nerve damage I have in my one leg-no more aches and stiffness to wake up to either. It supports and cradles your body. I had to purchase one as well for each one of my children and they sigh when they climb into bed at night and snuggle in. They now sleep thru the high as do we most of the time. I cannot say enough about this mattress topper and how it has transformed our sleep quality. The two inches gives plenty of loft and firmness without being overly soft. It is now a relief and joy to climb into bed at the end of a long day:) Overstocks quality is wonderful and I have found most of the items purchased here to be above standard and even better than I can find at the department store. The prices and shipping costs are the best around. Just try getting a fireplace shipped anywhere else for $2.95!!! These experiences have made me a loyal customer. Returns have been quick and any questions have been handled expertly. I could not ask for more.

I bought this matress topper because my husband has back problems and we have been toying with the idea of buying a memory foam matress for a couple of years. The problem that we have had in the past is that he needs a FIRM matress and I like them SOFT, so the memory foam seemed like it would be the perfect compromise. BUT, have you priced one of those out? JEEZE!!! Talk about expensive! So, before we took the plunge and went for it, I figured that we should try the topper and see if it even worked for us... Well, it is GREAT!!! I read all of the other reviews (well, not ALL of them) and was a bit worried about the "smell", and it not fitting my matress exactly and the "ragged edges" but I went for it anyways... I received my topper QUICK - like in a few days - and had it out of the box that night. I had a great time watching it unroll - yes, my life is not that exciting, lol - and I was even able to not help it unroll - too much. It unrolled quickly - about 1/2 an hour - and then I unfolded it. The smell was imediate and STRONG! I opened the windows and closed the door to the spare room and went and watched some TV... My husband got curious about then and decided that he really wanted to sleep on it right away... Sheesh - guys... So, we put it on the bed. It lined up with our queen matress perfectly, but the smell was still strong! I put the sheets back on the bed and sprayed them with fabric refresher - that helped... The first night was really bad for me - I tossed and turned all night and woke up not rested at all... My hubby got the best sleep of his adult life and was happy and rested (for the first time in years) so it was worth it to me - I left it on the bed! I stripped the sheets off and let it air out while we were at work and the smell was almost completely gone that night! I didn't sleep well for about 3-4 days and then my body adjusted and I am now back to sleeping like a hibernating mama bear - every night! I gave the 4 star ratings for the following reasons: Comfort: Took me some time to get used to it, but worth the adjustment period. Fabric Quality: I am already noticing that the places where we lay all the time MIGHT be starting to become too memorable. The foam isn't as firm in those places and it was when we first got it. I am wondering if we might not soon be sleeping in foam holes... Only time will tell! In conclusion, overall I am very happy with this purchase! It is, so far, worth the money I paid to find out if memory foam is for us. When this wears out, I will be purchasing the whole tomato! Good luck and goodnight!

2" Topper (faithgirl78, San Diego, CA, 2008-06-18)
 
It's been at least a month since we purchased this topper, so I've given it a good test. My husband and I decided to purchase this topper after we purchased a 10" no-name memory foam mattress from a furniture store in town. The mattress was nice but started to feel really firm as we continued to sleep on it night after night. Our solution was to purchase a topper to soften it up. We were torn between the Serta 2" topper that is a 4lb. density or a Serta 3" topper that is a 3lb. density. It's said that the higher the density the softer the mattress, so we chose the 2"- 4lb. topper and boy was it the right choice!! I've had no-name memory foam mattress toppers that were not a 4lb. density before and all I can say is what a difference the Serta brand name and higher density makes! Our bed is so comfortable now. The change was immediately noticable. I slept so well that first night that we put the topper on. There was a slight smell when we first opened the packaging. We laid it out on our guest bed for a couple of days, but by day 2 the smell was very slight and once you put a sheet over it, you couldn't even smell it. Our bed is a queen, and knowing that most all memory foam toppers are cut too small, we chose to purchase the Cal-King. That way it would be just the right size at the head and feet (which it fits perfectly from the headboard to the footboard, no overhang at all). It hung over about 6" on both sides. We followed the advice of some of the other reviewers and purchased an electric knife to cut it. It cut like butter... no problem at all to cut the sides down to fit the bed. Our bed is so comfortable now. I still think that no-name toppers are good for the price, but having now experienced the Serta brand name topper, it's like comparing apples to oranges. I am a brand name convert now. This topper is definitely a good buy. My hips and back no longer hurt b/c of our firm bed. Our bed is comfortable and I sleep all the way through the night (as long as my husband doesn't snore).

Does the job (Cruzrose, Venice, Florida, 2008-07-05)
 
This is the second Serta 2" memory foam topper I have purchased. The first one I transported all the way to Costa Rica in my luggage. When I opened it, there were many cuts in the topper and the topper quickly began to tear apart where the cuts were. It was so stuck together that I had to peel it apart. Every time I moved the topper, it would tear more. I had to hold it all together with a fitted sheet. It did help my back, though, as we had it on top of an air mattress than was hard on my back. The second topper that arrived a few days ago was totally different. The instructions say to open it within 3 days of arrival. Which I did. When I took off the plastic, it unrolled itself and popped up to the full 2" as it unrolled. This one was completely different than the previous one -- no cuts, no tears, no sticking together. I am not sure why the two toppers were so different except that the first one was not opened in 3 days; it was more like 3 weeks. These instructions only came with the second topper. I bought this second topper for our camper. The bed in our camper is made using the cushions of a convertable sofa. Those cushions are hard as rocks! This topper completely transforms those hard cushions in to a comfortable bed with great support! I also bought the full size zippered cover to protect it and to keep it clean. I wanted a topper with the full 54 x 75" dimensions not 2" shorter each way as the toppers come. Here's how I got it. I bought the king size topper. It measured 77" by 75". I measured 54" and cut it from the 77" side which left me with a full size topper measuring 54 x 75". I had a 23 x 75" piece left over that I will use as a mattress for my 7 yr old grandaughter when she comes over and when she goes camping with us. We can extend our camper mattress by another 23" by putting the table down next to the bed and using the same rock hard cushions supplied for the table seating. I am very happy with the results of this topper.

The price was great. Everywhere else I looked was much more. I ordered the Cal King size for a Queen bed and cut the extra off as many other reviewers suggested so it went to the edge of the mattress. It was the perfect length without cutting. It opened up fine on it's own. We just followed the instructions. I was really worried about the smell after reading some of the other reviews. I have an extremely strong sense of smell and can get ill from some odors that don't bother others much. There was some odor but not much and not bothersome. We left it in the extra bedroom for a few days to be sure but once it was on the bed there was no smell whatsoever. I bought it for my 6'2" teen age son because sometimes he has trouble sleeping and I thought if his bed was more comfortable it might help. My husband and I put it on our bed first because my husband had talked about getting us one and I thought we could try it for a week before buying one for ourselves. I thought I would really hate it because I had lain on a memory foam bed at the furniture store and hadn't liked it because it was so hard to turn over. Since this was only 2" thick it wasn't as hard to turn over on as the memory foam mattress was. I still didn't like it as well as without as our pillow top bed is extremely comfortable to me anyway. My husband is a big man and thought it would be really comfortable. Surprisingly he decided he preferred our bed without it too. My son thinks it works fine and adds a little comfort. I'm so glad I didn't pay what these normally cost because I don't think it would have been worth it.
