Don't buy if you already have nice full pillowtop (MsValleyGirl, San Jose, California, 2008-01-14)
 
My bed (2 bladder waterbed enclosed in mattress with thick pillow top) was already very comfortable. I had slept on my girlfriend's regular bed with 2-inch memory foam and loved it, so I bought one and had to go for the 4-inch (always the big eye). I thought it could only get better. It feels like I'm on 3 mattresses (like the story of princess and the pea). I've had it about 2 weeks, hoping I would adjust and learn to love it...but...ITS OVERKILL! I don't like it, I don't sleep well (like I did before). I graded low in appearance due to it being about 8 inches too short length-wise, (yes I have a King and ordered a King). I want to send it back to Overstock. I saved the box but like everybody else I'm worried about how to cram that now inflated foam back into it's original package. (kind of like muffin-top pants - cramming a size10 body into a size 6 or 8 jeans) . Anyway, the extra cushion just didn't work for me. For someone with a regular mattress, even a regular waterbed mattress, I think it's probably heaven and worth every penny. I’m sure some of them do smell. I was lucky and mine didn’t. So, after reading previous reviews, I worried about the smell, originally pulling it from the box in separate room - (but there was very little smell so after a hour or two I wanted to get it into my bedroom while it still folded a little). I originally worried about the weight and bulk and how to get it up the stairs and on my bed (fairly weak and no man! LOL) but I managed to actually push the box upstairs when it was still in the box, took it out in the other room, checked for odor (was OK), and keep it semi-folded, drug it in my room, opened it on up completely next to my bed to "inflate." It seemed pretty much ready to go in a few hours after that but I just went ahead and let it rest 24 hours like everyone else. I then partially folded each side and lifted to my bed, teetering one side at a time on the edge of my bed, going back and forth centering and dragging until I got it even and smack dab in the middle and opened it on up. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. (I thought I wouldn't be able to do it at all). Anyway, it didn't work for me so I hope the big "O" can help me figure a way to get it back to them....but overall think it's worth it for others with non-pillow top mattresses.

Let me begin by saying our mattress is less than 5 years old, but was not wearing very well. We went to look at new mattresses and it wasn't going well, especially after I bought a leading consumer rating magazine. I bought the magazine because I thought that when we bought a mattress this time we would have some ratings on the various companies. The search did not go well, mainly because the magazine doesn't rate them and you don't find that out until after you take the subscription online with them. I searched on the net and just ended up very confused. There were so many brands that people were not happy with that I wasn't sure I even wanted us to spend money on anything. The fact still remained we needed something. I actually had planned on buying a mattress from Overstock. I looked through the site looking at this and that when I came upon the 4 inch memory foam. Most of the ratings seemed very positive so after discussing it with my husband, we decided we would try it. It arrived and I picked it up from the local delivery as we were working when they attempted delivery and I was anxious for us to end our aches and pains from the bed. As some other posters have mentioned, there is some smell. I don't know what could be done to alleviate the odor, but I personally don't feel that it is so bad that that you can't get over it with a little patience. After having this a few weeks and having a very sensitive sniffer, it is there somewhat, but it is going away with time. The foam is heavy and if you need to position it, it will take more than one person. My son was home and he helped me put it on our bed so that I could make it. You will need very deep pocketed sheets once you get this on because your bed is going to be high. I have a mattress cover over it which helps keep everything in it's place. Sleeping on it has been no problem. It is a little weird to turn on it at first because it's not quite as easy to do. Now, we are sleeping very well. It's not going to be easy to sleep when summer finally comes unless we have the A/C pm because the foam holds body heat and is very dense. We are very happy with it though and it's extending a major purchase that we made. My daughter is using the pillows. She says their just *OK*, so consider them just what they are, a bonus.

We're sleeping together again! (MRandMrsGoldilocks, North Georgia Mountains, 2008-06-02)
 
It was like Goldilocks around here when my husband couldn't sleep on our (very nice latex) mattress. Back pain would wake him up in the middle of the night and he couldn't get comfortable. And that's after a very successful back surgery! First I tried removing the feather bed topper and down cover I'd added to our bed to make it more comfy for me. He thought they made the bed too soft for him, but he still couldn't get a good night's sleep, and now I couldn't either without the fluffiness. Turns out, he wanted firm and flat and I wanted soft and squishy. So we tried all four beds in the house. He ended up in a guest room on a queen sized mattress, but I can't sleep with him on a queen (snoring, bed hogging, body heat, etc...), so I moved to a daybed I made cozy with feather toppers and foam pads. I was in heaven and he slept through the night. But we have overnight guests pretty often and we had to do something to get back to our master bedroom. We looked at everything, from Duxiana to an Air-Bed. We couldn't decide! How can you decide in a showroom! And we didn't want to waste precious dollars. Did I say we'd even tried our friends' beds?! Some were way too soft, even for me. And some were like sleeping on a board. My brother's bed had two thin layers of memory foam and was just right -- for both of us. So I started reading reviews here at Overstock and was guided to the 4 inch thick, #3 density foam topper. It's made our good mattress even better for both of us, which is amazing considering our opposite needs. Hubby is sleeping through the night after a few (2) nights getting used to the new feel. I slept amazingly well from the first night -- and I'd been happy with my daybed! We don't toss around at all, I don't feel too warm as some reviewers have mentioned, and we weren't bothered by the odor which was gone within 24 hours. As stated in other reviews. be very careful unrolling the foam. It's soft and you can tear a little hole in it with your fingers. Also, I put a fluffy polyfilled mattress pad -- about 1" thick -- over it to protect the foam and keep it clean. I thought about rating the appearance 4 stars instead of 5 because I've seen some memory foam pads with cotton covers, but for this price, the mattress pad does the job just fine.

I love my new memory foam mattress topper! Before our mattress topper arrived, my husband and I both would wake up each morning with achy backs. In fact, my whole torso would hurt from turning from stomach to side to back. We got a new mattress that turned out to be too firm and did not help us get a good night's sleep. My husband has more severe back problems than I do and would get up during the night and could not sleep because he was in so much pain. I had been thinking about memory foam and wanted the memory foam mattress, but could not afford it. I had also priced toppers online and in stores and found those expensive as well, until I found this one on Overstock. I knew that at this price, and after reading the reviews about how much other users' sleep had improved, I had to give memory foam a try. I also read one reviewer's note about it tearing easily when moved to the bed, so I thought of a way to move it without tearing it. When my memory foam topper finally arrived, I spread out a comforter on a ping pong table ( you could use any type of large table or even spread the comforter on the floor). Next, place the wrapped up topper on the comforter and allow it to unfold according to the included directions. Once it has unfolded and regained its shape, it is time to move the topper to your bed. With the topper still on the comforter, pick up the comforter at each corner ( you need two people to do this). The topper will be cradled in the comforter while you walk it to your bed. Next, lay the comforter on the bed and gently roll the topper to one side push the comforter to the middle of the bed. Lay the topper back down on the bed and then gently roll it to the other side and pull the comforter out from under the topper. My husband and I have been sleeping much better now since we have gotten this topper. It is so comfortable and we do not want to get in the mornings! I am a plus sized woman and was concerned that the topper would compress too much under my weight. I does not! It supports me very well. There was a noticeable odor in the topper, but that disappeared after a few days. I highly recommend this topper! I don't think you will be disappointed.

I ordered this topper out of desperation. We couldn't afford to buy a new mattress for our bed, but at 6 months pregnant, I was getting no sleep. It was so bad, that I was forced to sleep on the couch (which wasn't much better). I ordered this with a promotional code, and hoped it would somewhat improve so I could get a decent nights sleep. The topper arrived very quickly (yay). I followed the directions exactly, removing it promptly from the box and letting it unfold itself overnight. It did just as it was supposed to, and didn't have the terrible smell that others mentioned in their reviews. We put it on the bed that night and I had the best night sleep I've had in ages. Even better than before I was pregnant! Here I am now, ready to deliver in a couple of weeks, and I am uncomfortable doing almost everything. But not sleeping! I'm ready to order one of these for every bed in our house! The topper came with the contour memory foam pillows, which are also fabulous. One of the "perks" of pregnancy is having to sleep on your side (not my normal favorite sleeping position). I've woken up for months with a terrible neck ache. Since using this pillow, I have no more neck aches! It conforms perfectly to my neck so it isn't bent or kinked like with a regular pillow. I have 2 minor complaints about the topper, which is why I gave only 3 stars for appearance and quality. First, like most other reviewers posted, there is a discrepancy in size. I would recommend ordering a size that is larger and cutting it down if you need to. We have a King size bed and the topper is about 2 inches short on each side. My second complaint is that it did tear easily when we were getting it from the spare room (where it unfolded) to our bed. Just carrying it caused a few small tears. However, since being used, no more tears have resulted from just sleeping on it. And, the tears that did occur are small and not noticable when sleeping on it. Overall, I recommend this topper to any and everyone. It is absolute heaven. No more back or neck pain, and I don't even need to use additional pillows to help support my pregnant body!
