great value for what it does (suave84, metropolitan area ny/nj, 2008-05-27)

Upon first looks, this sleek piece of modern necessity looks like it has it all. polished finish with chrome accents, minimalistic form and size, a simple amount of buttons, and just enough connectivity. after setting it up with my tv and surround sound system, i powered this player up to hear a rather annoying sound. nothing too much to worry about at first. the brand screensaver came up brightly and crisp, with a easily viewed status message. i place a dvd in that i know has incredible sound and visual appeal, and was very happy with the colors and sound being translated by this machine. but we return to the noise. if anyone has ever had a playstation 2 and used it as a dvd player, its the same type of annoying sound that the ps2 makes while playing a movie. a constant droning from the system reading the disc. luckily , the perfect volume on my setup blurs it away, but on lower volumes its faint and annoyingly in the background. the next issue is the remote. its a bit clumsy and oddly weighted, and , this is THE most annoying thing about this product overall, the buttons need a hefty amount of pressure to operate. and the fast forward and chapter skip are operated by the same button, which leads to skipping or rewinding an entire scene when you wanted to just fast forward or rewind a bit. i reccomend getting a universal remote and this should solve all your problems. or at least mine.

Refurbished.OK for the price (Schwantz, Omaha, 2008-01-30)

It took nearly 2 weeks for this to arrive. I was aware this was a refurbished product so my expectations were not too high. I came securely packaged. I installed it into my current system. The disc platform is rather flimsy but otherwise it looks ok. It came with a manual and I played with the setup until I got a configuration I was happy with. I was looking for an upconvert to go with the new 42"LCD HDTV. I bought it as a go between until the the Blueray/HD competition shakes out. I did not notice a whole lot increased picture clarity but it is difficult without a side by side comparision to my old set up. I played about 4 movies in it when it suddenly would not read any disc I put in it. I received a constant "no disc" error with DVDs I had played earlier. I went online for an immediate fix and found the usual culprit is a dirty optical reader. I used a cleaning disc I had and that seemed to alleviate the problem for now. You would think when they refurbish, the optical reader would be cleaned. For the price, I can't complain too much. The old axiom, "you get what you pay for" comes to mind.

Cheap DVD Player (DSC9, NY NY, 2008-01-22)

I was looking for a cheap DVD player. And this fits the bill, although I probably could have gone cheaper with another brand. The good: Plays DVD's pretty well. I had a few badly scratched DVD's from the library which I thought would be uplayable, but I was able to play them on this player. My previous player would not have been able to play it. The Bad: 1. It's a bit slow loading up. 2. It did not come with a user's guide; only a quick start up sheet. I called customer assistance to have one sent to me. They said they'd send one and then a week later they called to say they couldn't send one unless I sent them a copy of the sales receipt. Even after I provided them with documentation, they said it wasn't good enough. Instead they directed me to their WEB site where I downloaded it. 3. There is no button on the remote to open the the DVD carriage. That was one of the reasons I NEEDED the user guide. Fortunately, the guide indicated that to open the carriage you need to press the "stop" button for several seconds.

great product (KELSIE1955, Vermont, 2008-06-16)

I love it so far. Great DVD player with nice features. Would recommend to anyone. Refurbished items are a good value for anyone who can't afford to buy at retail prices. Think of it as the product you are receiving had been tested and tried to make sure it works correctly. Some new products don't go through this kind of testing.

not what it says it was (Liltiger, , 2008-05-28)

I wanted to get the most out of my new LCD TV, and so I purchased this player because of the hdmi output and 1080p feature that I was looking for. After setting it up, and played a movie, I tried to set it to 1080p, but it only goes up to 1080I which is not the highest ratio as I was told. What happened to that said feature?
