Beautiful & Solid Bed. Challenging Assembly (UrbanGirl, Texas, 2008-01-14)

This is a beautiful and solid bed. It arrived quickly and safely, with no damage. The box had its fair share of marks and dings, but the bed itself suffered absolutely no damage. Good packing. As you'll see from lots of other reviews (all of which I also read before purchasing), this is a somewhat challenging item to assemble. HOWEVER, it's worth the effort and potential frustration. As I had read all of the other reviews, I prepared myself for hours of purposeful struggle -- I am a relatively small woman and am usually quite capable with puzzles and power tools. My hints for your assembly ease: Do not even think about relying on the hex wrenches included in the instructions. You will fail and go insane along the way. Most of your power tools (drills, screwdrivers) may be too big. If you have a relatively long-handled screwdriver with changeable heads (phillips and multiple hex heads), you are set. Pay attention to the pictures. In particular, the "overview" picture has the headboard facing one way (with the little grooves showing); BUT, the "first step" where the legs are attached has the headboard facing the other way. At first glance, this is not obvious. It is, however, intentional and necessary for correct assembly. If you get this step right, it should be smooth sailing. Use your best judgment regarding the super-glue. I did NOT use it b/c I anticipate needing to dis-assemble and move within the next few years. I'm very happy with this bed, and had a relatively straightforward assembly experience. I'd re-purchase and do it again, even if 2x more challenging.

Exactly what I wanted (whiterabbit721, Oakland, CA, 2008-02-05)

This bed is quality! And it arrived fast! The assembly was straight forward despite the fact those bolts in the back of the headboard are a major pain (read: you really, really need something other than the provided wrenches to do it in any kind of decent time frame). Once the headboard was done, the rest went together very quickly. The pices arrived without a mark on them and all the hardware was accounted for (even had extra stuff in case something went wrong). It makes our old mattress feel firmer. The frame is so stable we can hardly feel each other roll over! Just a beautiful and solid piece of furniture! Oh, but do watch out for the footboard...I have already hit my foot and leg on it a few times because it sticks out a little more than I thought it would.

Just Right! (AuntDeany, WA, 2008-03-12)

We purchased the lingerie chest, larger chest, two bedside tables and queen bed in this set. It really does help to buy a rubber mallet for pounding in the pegs without damaging the wood. And it also helps - most of all - to go out and buy your own allen wrench. The bed is a royal pain to put together with the wrench they give you in the box. We didn't glue anything and it is all very sturdy. We didn't screw in the slats on the bottom of the bed. We used a firm foam mattress (also purchased from Overstock) and no box spring. Just the foam mattress over the slats and it holds the slats in place. It is comfortable, just the right height, and shows off the headboard nicely. Fantastic price for the quality!

First purchase from overstock (this and a 10" memory foam mattress) All arrived in a timely fashion, in good condition. This was, as other reviews had stated, a little tedious to assemble. It was not difficult, even though I assembled it by myself, just time consuming. This bed LOOKS FANTASTIC. It is very sturdy and for the price I am thrilled with both this and the mattress. I was a little concerned with buying these items sight unseen, but having read the positive (and negative) reviews decided to go ahead with the purchase. I am glad I did. Athough this was my first, this will not be my last purchase from overstock

We are so pleased with this Chestnut Queen bed and it was our FIRST order with Overstock.com... it arrived in 3 boxes, VERY well packaged ad dent free... assembly took 2 1/2 to 3 hours with electric screwdriver and best done with 2 people (one to hold the pieces).... it looks GORGEOUS, rich and PERFECT in our bedroom, just the styling and tone that we were looking for... a perfect blend between Craftsman and Japanese styles. The frame is very sturdy and even doesn't creek! Can't say enough about it... our most affordable and classy purchase to date for our new home!!
