Story Behind the Art

This purse is filled with tradition, love and hope, as it is hand-embroidered and sewn in a small, quality-driven sewing workshop by Maya women from Southern Belize. The production of these purses and other bags is driven by a mission to make Maya women income-earners in their families, build their self-esteem and independence, and help send their children to school. As well, the effort supports the continuation of traditional crafts in the Maya villages and employs over 50 Maya women in six villages.
