Middle of the Road (callisto9, Bettendorf, IA, 2008-08-02)

It DOES come in really tight packaging. You have to be really, really careful cutting this open or you'll slice your futon cover. Shipping was really fast and you can't beat $3 shipping. The mattress does expand, so once you've cut it open (yikes!), lay it out flat and give it a day or so. It did fluff out nicely, though I really feel this is more of a seven inch thick mattress than an eight inch thick one. And it does seem a tad short on the sides; it doesn't fill out my full-sized frame like my previous mattress did. The mattress is a nice brown color, but I put a futon cover on it immediately, so the color doesn't matter. It's really soft and comfy and I bet sleeping on it is a dream, though I'm using it as the main and only piece of furniture in my livingroom. I do have concerns about this mattress not keeping its shape after a short period of time. I'm not exactly on the light side (200+ lbs.), so I do worry about flattening this mattress out prematurely. Honestly, I wish I'd opted for the 9" mattress with springs. My last one was a 8" with springs and it felt much sturdier (obviously). (One month later): This mattress doesn't keep its shape for long. Again, I am using the mattress as couch 100% of the time, so it's always it the upright position, creased somewhere in the middle. The side I sit my butt on is already lumpy and somewhat mis-shapen. We turned it around tonight, and can't get the darned thing to sit right (creased in a weird spot, making it jut out past the bottom of the frame too far). I can't say I'd recommend this mattress for anyone's main piece of furniture. It would be better suited in a spare room, in the "bed" position.

8" futon mattress (Aubie86, Austin, TX, 2008-05-07)

The futon arrived undamaged from shipping. It was easy to remove the packaging with scissors although you must be careful not to cut the futon cover. We allowed the futon a couple of days to "fluff up". But I really didn't perceive much difference in mattress height even after a couple of days. If you want a premium futon mattress, maybe this one is not the one for you. I did not want to spend more money for a premium futon mattress and therefore I feel this futon works fine for our needs. We mostly sit on the futon as a sofa in my husband's "man room". I am sure that if we decided to sleep on the futon as a mattress, it would be comfortable. When the futon is flat, it also makes a nice surface. not too hard and not too soft, to exercise our toddler son who has cerebral palsy. It is much easier to exercise our son on the futon than on the floor. Overall we are pleased with this purchase. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that it doesn't seem to have the 8" height but that is not really a problem for us. It is a quality product and we like it.

Great bargain (ellaguru, NJ, 2008-05-17)

But... don't expect this to be the fluffy futon in the illustration. It's just a futon mattress. I can say that it's softer than the old mattress I had which was 100% cotton batting. And it doesn't weigh quite as much... but it's HEAVY. But if you own a futon you already know that. It basically looked the same as my old mattress but it feels better. I mostly use the futon as a couch but I did have to sleep on it and it was much more comfortable. It comes with a gray cover. I use a nicer cover over it but you could get away with the one that is on there - but once that's dirty you're in trouble. One comment on this and all futon mattresses, wouldn't it be great if they gave you some handles to move it around like a normal mattress?? It is difficult moving them because there is nowhere to grab (if it's a 1 person task). But all in all, the mattress is a bargain for the price and if you need a more comfortable mattress, you really can't go wrong.

WOW!! (Pinaca, Washington, 2008-02-09)

I read all the positive reviews and was excited to receive my product. I was in dire need of a new mattress but had been holding out until I could find one of good quality. To my suprise it came within a week from ordering. It was rolled up like a thick short fat tube.....I rolled it out and to my dismay It was less than half the size of my futon frame. Even though I knew that it may take a couple days to fluff out. I thought I had purchased the wrong size mattress. It was the size of a large couch cushion!! It ended up fluffing out to 72' and about 6 1/2 inches after 4 days. It covered most of the frame. Now after 2 wks of use it has stretched out to the full length of 75" thickness hasn't fluffed out to 8" but it is absolutley comfortable. I love it!!! Hope it last me awhile

great matress (tjoebaxter, elyria, oh, 2008-04-08)

when i bought a new futon i tried to use my old futon matress but it was very uncomfortable, so i started to look for a new one. however i was disappointed when i saw how much a good one could cost. then i found this one on overstock!! wow i didnt know a futon could be more comfartable then my couch.! it was here in just a couple days and shipping was only two dollars!! it looks great even without a cover! i have three small kids and i use it in the tv room! it ceans up nice. i find myself sitting on it all the time because its so comfortable. the matress stays put and doesnt fall down to show the frame of the futon. it really is a great deal and everyone who sits on it is shocked on how comfortable it is!! great buy!
