The Story Behind the Product

Kwasi Asante is probably one of the most skilled carvers in Kumasi, Ghana. His family has been in the carving business for a very long time. He has a large and experienced staff of other carvers and sub-contract carvers, which provides him the capacity to supply large quantities of carvings. His carving operation uses fallen logs and government approved lumber. He has provided much need income to hundreds of carvers over the years. He has also provided educational opportunities to his children and his extended family and to other remote villages as well.

great conversation piece! (thestumpyone, New York, 2008-03-24)

We ordered this item so we could use it as a conversation piece, rather than a practical item. It arrived quickly (thanks O!). The first thing we noticed is that it is very lightweight, which doesn't really make any difference. It is on the small side, but exactly what you would expect a footstool to be. You can actually see the marks from where they used tools to shape the stool, and it is really quite unique. It does not, however, look like the picture listed *it does look similar though*, but since it is handmade, they warn you that every stool looks different. We are very happy with this item and would buy something like this again.

Ashanti Unity Stool (jena1792, Balt md, 2008-08-27)

I received this as a gift after considering purchasing it for myself. Its not really practical as its too small for anything. Read carefully the size of this one and others like it on site. They are all exceptionally small and cannot bear the weight you may expect a large stool would. The craftsman however is exceptional and if you are looking at this as art, its a wonderful peice. I gave workmanship a 3 because I consider the whole of the peice from the artist and more time should be taken to scan his customers in order ot determine what the customer is looking for. Hand-carved Ashanti Unity Stool (Pennyfiltcher, America, 2008-01-12)

This stool is very SMALL. There is no untiy as it would be lucky to seat one. I might have liked it better had the hand carved symbols on it not looked like someone carved their initials on a tree. The design of the legs on this stool are awesome with the way they wrap around each other. Mostly because of the size & the poor carving decorations i must give this item a low rating. The assembly was easy, just take it out of the box and hide it behind a plant in the corner. Sorry Mom, i promise next christmas i will not get you an eye sore!

Attractive but tiny (shoehorn, Kalispell, MT, 2008-02-05)

This stool is very attractive, but I should have read the reviews before ordering it. It is so small there is not much you can do with it., even though the size is, I think authentic. Overstock did have the correct dimensions in their ad, but I guess the assumption that a stool would be tall enough to sit on overrode the careful analysis of the description. I kept it since shipping it back would be almost as much as it cost, and it is lovely--now to find a place to put it.

Perfect Accent Piece (ladygo, chicago, il, 2008-07-23)

This stool is not a good size for an adult stool but it can be used for so much more. When I first got it I used it as a space filler but it works well as a plant holder. It looks really good with candles arranged on it (i wouldn't suggest burning candles directly on the stool). I've gotten nothing but compliments on this stool.
