The history of FATHER KNOWS BEST stretches back to the late 1940s, when the comedy about the family life of insurance salesman Jim Anderson (Robert Young) debuted as a radio show. In 1954 CBS picked up the show and turned it into a hit sitcom that ran until 1960. This release includes the entire first season of episodes, which follow the distinctly middle-class lives of Jim, his wife Margaret (Jane Wyatt), and their kids, Betty Princess Anderson (Elinor Donahue), James Bud Anderson (Billy Gray), and Kathy Kitten Anderson (Laurin Chapin). Each episode finds the family members slotting into very traditional roles, but Young and the co-creator of the show, Eugene Rodney, would occasionally subvert events to show that, in fact, father doesn`t always know best. Loved this show! (Terrym, NY, 2008-05-08)

Father Knows Best, was the best...it had everything, family values, morals and laughs, who could ask for more. I look at the TV shows on today and wonder what they are teaching our children- This wonderful show was entertaining and also taught you something about life and the things we all go through. They weren't the perfect family but they certainly portrayed the families of the time, and only wish we would see more shows like this today. Robert Young was born to play Jim Anderson, he was the perfect Dad! I loved this as a child and I think I am enjoying it even more now. I hope the next seasons are put out fast!

FATHER KNOWS BEST, FIRST SEASON (EJ30, North Carolina, 2008-06-15)

This is definitely a family oriented series. My wife and I remember how much we enjoyed it when it was on tv. Jane Wyatt is great as the mother. We have enjoyed the several episodes that we have watched thus far.
