Traditional VCR with Tuner (BarbaraLeeC, Houston, TX, 2008-05-31)

As someone with an extensive VCR tape library, I needed to replace an old VCR that no longer worked. I bought a combination VCR/DVD player and a special cord needed to connect it to the TV set in my bedroom, because that TV is connected directly to my cable service by a cord from the wall rather than via a digital cable box, which is located in a different room. The more expensive VCR/DVD player didn't record because it didn't have its own tuner installed. Apparently, it's no longer possible to purchase this simple device at retail stores. When I checked Overstock.com, there were at least a dozen choices of stand-alone VCRs with tuners. It cost half what I had paid for the DVD/VCR and special connecting cord, which I returned to the stores where purchased. The shipping cost was a ridiculously low $2.95 and it arrived via FedEx in two days. Unbelievable! Thanks, Overstock.com -- you're the best!

Emerson VCR (punkinHEAD541, Chicago IL, 2008-08-20)

I have used this VCR for three months and it's still working so that is a big plus because, the way it bangs when stopping, I didn't think it would last out the week when I first hooked it up. It is doing the job for my daily timer recordings but does have it's problems. I can't record anything on the first hour of tape or the playback rolls and the sound distorts but, if I start recording on the second hour of tape, then it seems to do just fine. This VCR doesn't have many of the features I became accustomed to such as a universal remote or the "Go to zero" feature and the "index search" only works successfully about 75% of the time but the price was right and, as I said, it is doing the job so I am satisfied with this purchase.

As promised, but. . . . (Chuckkenzie, Greensboro, NC, 2008-01-10)

This VCR was my first purchase from Overstock. I purchased it for my parents for Christmas since finding a VCR only unit is basically impossible in regular stores. The package arrived on time and in excellent condition with all of the components listed on the site (instruction manual, remote control, cords, etc). Unfortunately, we received a model that did not function properly. The unit received would not stay on and would not eject the tape that had been inserted into it. Needless to say, the defective model has been returned for a refund which has been a very simple process. Although this particular purchase did not work out, I will keep Overstock in mind for future hard to find items.

Just what I wanted (jlkl3, Philadelphia, PA, 2008-03-16)

My husband had been looking for a new VCR but of course they are no longer available in the stores. He did not want a VCR/DVD combo as he is not into anything hi-tech. He has a lot of tapes and just wanted a machine that would tape a few sports shows and play his tapes. Of course I thought of Overstock.com and was able to find the perfect VCR. I was a little concerned about the refurbished thing but so far it is not a factor at all. He is delighted with this unit. It arrived quickly, was very easy to set up and he is once again one happy guy. Great unit for the $$$$. Thanks Overstock for once again having just what I needed.

Disappointed, Already broken (OBI1, MELROSE PARK,IL, 2008-08-23)

i recently bought this product as a basic spare room vcr and unfortunatly already its not working properly. it lasted about a couple of months. overall as far as features and ease of use go....its a good product. the problem is that the picture is now very fuzzy,shakey, scrolling...and it's not due to the tracking needing to be adjusted because we tried that. we also cleaned it and that wasnt the problem either. i have never had a problem with any used or refurb items i have bought in the past till now, so it could just be a fluke that i got a refurb that still has issues. but i'm very disappointed.
