Philip Pullman's Dark Materials Trilogy (rj1234, Florence, OR, 2008-01-27)

I read the Golden Compass before seeing the movie. I am glad I did because it maked the move much easier to understand. I assume the same would be true if movies are made of the other two books in the trilogy. The set of three books, I purchase from overstock.com are an excellant value. I priced the individual books from several sources and the cost far exceeds what I paid for the set from Overstock. For anyone who enjoyed the Narnia stories, the Philip Pullman series are very similar.

Wonderful writing (auntfran, Sonoma, CA, 2008-01-09)

Phillip Pullman is a wonderful writer and the plot just keeps moving along. It is as much a coming-of-age story as it is a rollicking good adventure. I had read the trilogy a couple of years ago and gave the books to my 11 year old niece who loves to read. When the movie came out, I just had to read it again. And I lost sleep because I couldn't put it down.

I bought this set for my 13 year old daughter for Christmas and she enjoyed it immensely. She carried the books with her until she finished all three. She said the stories were very entertaining she just wished they were longer. They would be great for fifth and sixth graders but because she reads at the high school level she went through them too quickly.

Fun book for adults too (zmobile, Green Bay, WI, 2008-01-19)

My wife teaches 8th grade English and suggested the Golden Compass to me. I have read the Enders Game series previously and really enjoyed it. I found The Golden Compass to be a similar kind of book and was a very fast read. I haven't started the last two books in the series yet, but I am looking forward to them.

I was pleased to find this collection at such a great price. Phillip Pullman is an amazing writer. I enjoyed his works as a child, but I think I enjoy them even more now that I am an adult. I will definitely track down his Sally Lochhart Chronicles (I remember loving The Ruby in the Smoke when I was 11).
