Rocky start, but better now (KZSMOM, North Carolina, 2008-01-28)

When I purchased this sewing machine I was a little leary about buying a reburbished one, but after reading all the great reviews I decided to take a chance. I had hours of trouble in the beginning with the tension control and called the Brother Technical Service number but that was a complete waste of time. Their only suggestion was for me to take it to a service center (70 miles away). I worked out the problem on my own and now my machine works great. I have completed several projects and I am very pleased. If you have never owned a computerized machine, remember to let it do as much as possible automatically. I think my problem with the tension was coming from me manually turning the wheel to lift the needle for threading and then manually turning the wheel again to lower the needle. This machine has a button to do this for you. After changing the tension control, changing thread, checking the needle size, re-threading the bobbin and re-threading the machine multiple times, this is the only thing I did differently, and it has worked ever since. Also, Overstock.com was willing to let me return the machine for a full refund since Brother Technical Service was useless. I'm glad I tried it one more time before sending it back. Just hope it lasts!

So Far So Good.... (cheyli, San Diego, CA, 2008-02-22)

I've been really pleased with the machine so far. It's really easy to thread and to use altogether. I have used it to sew two layers of thin flannel, two layers of cotton solid, and a band of elastic and it did start to jam. I retracted the needle (which, by the way, is a computerized button feature, not a knob) and tried again and it worked fine. I don't like the accessories compartment because it's never really closed (there's a gap on the bottom). This means that everything you want to store in the accessories compartment needs to be in a neat little bag -- great for tidy people, not so great for me! However, I was THRILLED to open the accessories compartment to find all of the feet included! I don't remember reading about it anywhere on the purchase site, and I can't recall exactly how many there are, but I'd guess 5 or 6? I threw in some from my old machine, so I'm not sure which came with this one...Those are my only complaints. Otherwise, I'd say it's very responsive and quiet. It's really a great little machine and you can't beat the price! -- Oh, and the one I purchased is refurbished and you seriously wouldn't know it. It's like new. FYI: I am posting this after having made only three projects.

brother CS 6000 (BaltimoreJean, Baltimore, Maryland, 2008-03-15)

Okay, Overstock has asked me about this and this is a review with no bull. They send you the walking foot and the darning foot and the table comes with it and is easy to put on. I think the major reason this was not popular is that the tension setting should be 0 most of the time when you are using the computerized stitching and most people have been taught that the tension must be 3. The bobbin winder and the needle threaders are not really functional. You thread the bobbin the old way except you don't have to pull the dial outwards to disengage the needle. Needle threader does not work at all BUT I did not buy a needle threader, I want a smoother machine that could handle a pieced quilting top, warm and natural batting and a backing. I was able to finish my queen sized quilt using the walking foot and the binding method. Everyone thinks it looks great, the other decrorative stitches are as advertised.

great value (lizzy317, ny, 2008-03-13)

My little old Elna kept breaking down and every time I took it into my local sewing shop for repair it was costing me nearly $100. When I found this machine for less than $150 I thought its gotta be better than paying to fix the old machine over and over so I went for it. It arrived very quickly, was really easy to set up. The bobbin is really easy , threading is easy, but the one-touch-button-hole for me is a dream come true. I used to hate doing button holes now I will throw one or two in just cause I can. I gave it a 4 star rating for durability not because I have had a problem with it but it just seems kinda cheesy in some areas. Plastic bobbins, lots of other plastic too. I will still have my Elna fixed but I am thoroughly enjoying this machine. This would be great for beginners and the self taught (like me). I still dont know how to use some of the feet.

Old Sewer / New Machine (Bertie63, Denver. CO, 2008-03-09)

The Brother CS6000 sewing machine is a wonderful little machine. I have been sewing for about 55 years since my mother taught me to make doll clothes. I was able to use the machine to make curtains for the office where I work after looking at the directions and setting up the machine. The needle threader is wonderful for these old eyes. My only concern is finding bobbins that fit properly. I bought one small package that were not Brother bobbins and they did not fit eventhough they were the correct type. I will have to find brother bobbins somewhwere. I can't rate durability as I have only had the machine a short time. It is light weight and easy to move where I want to work. but I am not sure it will work on real heavy fabrics like denim. I sew very little these days and it will be a great machine for what I do.
