just not warm enough (coldfeet57, Colorado, 2008-01-25)

This blanket just does not get warm in a satisfying manner. No doubt lawsuits have forced electric blanket makers to turn down the heat, to the point they just don't compare to electric blankets of yesteryear. Given these realities, this is probably one of the best blankets out there. PROS: --The 80% cotton blend is soft and does not have nearly as much lint as the synthetic fabrics. Nonetheless, I still had to wash it twice to remove the lint. --The bedside control stays in place nicely. The digital display is adequate. If you are severely nearsighted, it is still a bit hard to read at night, but for most people, it would be fine. --This blanket will eventually keep you warm, but it may take a while. I piled extra blankets and pillows on top of it. By doing so, I sometimes got TOO warm, but it still wasn't satisfying. Hard to figure. --It would be impossible for this blanket to catch anything on fire! CONS: --If you remember the old electric blanket (of the 1970s) it got WARM, even HOT. We liked this. That's why we had it. Apparently legal liabilities have forced electric blankets to become little more than "slightly warming" blankets. If it thinks it's too hot, it shuts off. However, placing a blanket or comforter on top does NOT cause problems, despite the warnings in the instructions. It is, in fact, essential to force the heat down into the bed! --It is strange to have the blanket on, yet find that the far side of the bed is still quite cold to the touch. You may get up in the middle of the night and come back to find the bed seems no longer as warm. --The unit automatically shuts off after 10 hours. Some people may think this is a convenience, but if you like to turn your blanket on early to warm it up, you may run out of heat before you run out of sleep! --If you turn the unit off (or it shuts off automatically), you must wait up to 10 minutes while it "cools down" before you can turn it back on, even if the blanket is COMPLETELY COLD! --If the electricity goes off overnight, the blanket shuts off and does not come back on. Instead, it displays "E" (for Error). --The controls are pretty good, but if you accidentally press the "OFF" button instead of the "UP/DOWN" buttons, tough luck! You have to wait 10 minutes--by which time you're asleep...until you get cold and wake up again! CONCLUSION: Considering the alternatives, this is in fact a very good blanket. I'm pretty sure you cannot find an old-style electric blanket that actually gets hot, or even warm. Lawsuits have guaranteed that. I also tried a Sunbeam blanket. This blanket did not get very warm either. And its control buttons were flush and difficult to distinguish by feel: a poor design for a nighttime device. Since all today's electric blankets seem to have been turned into "somewhat warming" blankets, this Beautyrest may be the best of what's out there. Just avoid the versions with higher polyester or acrylic content unless you like lint (see the reviews for those blankets).

Warm... but fuzzy (WarmandfuzzyinSC, Taylors, SC, 2008-02-09)

I love so many things about this blanket: 1. Dual controls – are a marriage’s best friend! This blanket has ended the ongoing struggle between my husband who is never cold and me, the chilly one. We can each choose how warm we want to be. I wish there could be a summer version of this blanket – a chilling blanket so he can be cold and I can be comfortable! 2. Silent heating – I remember the electric blankets from when I was growing up. They would click as the heat element went on and off. As a very light sleeper, the click was enough to wake me up. This blanket is perfectly silent. Ahhh. Peaceful sleep. 3. Easy to use controls – I like how easy it is to adjust the temperature. You just click the arrow to increase or decrease the temperature on your side. The BAD part about that, though, is for example if “someone” happens to fumble in the dark trying to adjust the temperature and that “someone” happens to hit the OFF button by accident, it does turn that side of the blanket OFF – and you cannot turn it back on for 6-7 minutes. Well, in that time “someone” fell back asleep and woke up again several hours later – very chilly. BRR, lesson learned. 4. Digital controls – Since this is an electronic control, it’s easy to find the temperature you like; just click it to that number. Better than the levers where you’re not always quite sure if it’ll be too hot or too cool. I do have one NEGATIVE comment: My husband accidentally slept with the blanket against his t-shirt and woke up covered in fuzzies! Another lesson learned – make sure there’s a sheet between you and the blanket.

Good electric blanket, but a little too technical! (LadyPuritan, Maryland, 2008-04-22)

I was so cold this Winter that I was willing to pay nearly anything to get an electric blanket on my bed FAST. Though I purchased this blanket at a bargain price it did exceed my budget more than I wished. I consoled myself believing that it would be a good investment for many chilly nights to come. I am pleased overall. It heats up very quickly and the heating quality is excellent. My only complaint is that it is so high tech I am sometimes faced with "error messages". It has to recalibrate if the blanket gets too crumpled, or for some other reason that I will never understand. As a result, I have to unplug it, wait for it to adjust and plug it back in again. This doesn't happen everytime I use it. Yet, when it does I yearn for the days when electric blankets had only 3 settings, Hi, Med, & Low. Other than this occasional annoyance, it is worth buying.

THE BEST (JesicaAnn, Seattle, WA, 2008-02-28)

This is the best warming/electric blanket out there. I have used several models over the years. This is the first one that I have been able to find that is COTTON. I do not like having synthetic fabrics on my bed. That might be weird, but that is just how I am. The controls are great. I use it under several other blankets with no problems. If the time elapses that causes the blanket to shut off itself, or if you accidently push the on/off button while the blanket is on, and try to turn it on again immediatly, you will recieved an error message, Just wait a few moments and it will turn on again just fine. I have had this blanker for about 7 months, and more pleased with it than I have with any other electric blanket purhcase. You will not be displeased. I have washed it many many times, and it has not pilled up or malfunction in any way.

Not toooo bad (MeInBigD, Dallas, TX, 2008-01-14)

My big complaint is that it pills... a lot, especially during the first wash. I wore black cotton pants and shirt while warming up under it, and when I came out, you could see little fabric hairs all over me. But the blanket works and seems durable. Gets nice and toasty. We haven't broken it yet (1 month) and we'll scrunch it up in the corner of our couch, sit on it, step on it, etc. Still works. And it's nice to have the dual temperature controls. Oh, and one other warning. If you turn it off and then decide to turn it back on again before it completely cools, it will give you an error. You have to wait for it to cool down. Works every time, after that. We paid under $100 for this king sized blanket. We got what we paid for. Nothing exciting, pills, but is okay. We felt no need to return it. We're happy enough.
