Not totally thrilled with bag (crwilli, Charlotte, NC, 2008-04-16)

I ordered this bag for my NYC trip so I could stuff everything in a backpack while navigating the city. With many items in it, it is quite awkward and was slightly painful for my back. Again, I had extra items in the bag which made it heavy, but that is the reason I ordered a backpack, to make sure it didn't hurt my back... It is a nice, high quality bag, but again, very awkward to carry. The clips kept sliding so it hung low on my back the entire trip. I unfortunately, do not recommend this backpack for ease on the back during a big trip. You will be disappointed. I also recommend ordering black, if you do order one. I ordered brown and it is more of an orange-brown, so I was also disappointed in the color. Get black!! If you are just looking for a backpack style purse with a few items in it, you may like this bag. If you are looking for a bag you can fill with lots of stuff, this is not the bag for you. Again, the quality is good, it just didn't serve the purpose for which I purchased the backpack. GET BLACK! I order very often from Overstock and love every item I order. However, this time, I don't love the product, but it is no reflection on Overstock. It just was not what I wanted.

Your bag should not be high maintenance! (Franmuffin, San Francisco, 2008-05-14)

Now that I've owned this bag for a while, I understand both the negative & the positive reviews. It is with a heavy heart that I cannot recommend it. On the positive side, it's attractive, has large capacity, and the leather is nice. You definitely can use it as both a bag & backpack. On the negative side, you have to take about 30 seconds to a minute to convert it from bag to backpack. Even if you've been wearing it as a backpack and want to put it back on, you have to readjust the straps every single time. My friends are always waiting for me at lunchtime, as I adjust the straps yet again. Also, beware of the outer pockets. My cell phone has fallen out a few times due to the expanding pocket flap. I'm still looking for the perfect bag. I will keep this one for traveling, but it's just too problematic for everyday use.

Wow - What a bag! (AreThereAnyNicksNotTaken, Columbia, MO, 2008-07-30)

I ADORE this bag!!! This is the thickest, richest feeling leather, not patchwork like someone said they got in an earlier review. I had a bag like this, that I really liked, but it never sat right; this bag hugs my body and I never have to worry about it getting into the way or knocking stuff off behind me when I turn around. The only thing I don't like is the front pocket. It has sort of a "expansion" flap, so if you don't zip it up all the time, it sort of sags a bit - I've not lost anything out of it, but it doesn't look great, IMO - I would have made it a normal zipped pocket. Keep in mind that the "Brown" should actually be called "Chestnut", it is a redder color than the picture looks. Hardware is hefty and made to last. I don't travel, but if I did, this would be the bag I'd take!

Leather Sling backpack (Magpie1951, Madison, WI, 2008-05-06)

I ordered this bag for a trip to Europe. I was looking for something easy and lightweight that would accomodate a camera, umbrella, my jacket, passport and wallet as well as some snacks. It worked very well for this and I was very pleased. The only problem I had was one side zipper didn't always want to stay closed. Otherwise I felt that my passport was secure and the back stayed close to my body so I didn't have to worry so much about pickpockets. Nice product. Margaret L

backpack purse (ScoobyDo, Memphis, TN, 2008-05-01)

This is a great purse. Doesn't look that big when you are carrying it, but has multiple pockets and lots of room. Good leather. Easy to convert to a backpack. I bought it for a cruise and have continued to carry it since I came home. Bought the cognac, which is a neutral, but it is not really taupe or beige so it is sometimes hard to coordinate. If I had it to do over again, I would buy the black since I like it enough to carry it for everyday.
