Down and feather-filled products are packed tightly during shipping. Upon receipt, remove them from their packaging, fluff gently, and allow several hours to recover their full loft. In addition, being sealed in plastic packaging sometimes causes the scent of these natural products to concentrate to a disagreeable level. A few hours of airing usually removes the odor.

Exceptional Purchase (cjbaker, Gainesville, GA, 2008-06-24)
 
I have owned 2-3 prior down comforters - most being "feather" down comforters. If you read this comment, please consider this - a "feather" down is different from a "goose" down. The feather down comforter is still warm to a degree, but you feel all the spines of the feathers when you squeeze any part of the comforter itself. The down comforter is the softest comforter you can buy, for it contains the softest part of the goose feather that is located closest to the animal's skin, which means there are no "spines" to feel when you squeeze the comforter - all you feel is soft feathers when you squeeze. Yes, the goose down comforter is the pricest one can buy, which is why I always chose the feather comforters instead. HOWEVER, when I saw the price of this goose (100%) down comforter, I jumped on the purchase. See for yourself- go to your local dept store at the mall and check out what these 100% GOOSE down feather blankets cost, then consider the fact that the percale count on this comforter is advertised at 700, (which means that the cotton fabric is weaved tighter, so feathers will not escape) not the typical 200-300 count (oftentimes feathers do escape) that they come in. When you receive this blanket via mail, it will indeed have a distint odor because IT IS NEW. Let it air out for 24 hrs, then all will be fine. I purchased a queen size comforter and it fits over the edges nicely on my queen bed. This is one of the finest goose down blankets I have located, and the price is good, including shipping charges! You cannot go wrong, this blanket is priced very well, so go ahead and buy it.

I have been shopping for a down comforter for a few years now. I decided to purchase this one after reading the reviews and doing some research on them. Overstock by far offered the best quality for the best price even with all the spring sales going on! I have EXTREMELY bad allergies and I have absolutely NO issues with this comforter. It fluffs nicely, evenly, and I have had no issues with poking or escaping down. I do keep my comforter in a duvet cover to keep it clean so I do not really get to enjoy its high quality silky cotton. I am a bit cold blooded, and this comforter has kept me warm even with summer coming. I have never woken up in a sweat, or had to kick off the entire blanket due to over heating (at most had to poke out my feet). If you are extremely warm blooded however and sleep with only a sheet at night, this comforter might be a little too warm for you during the summer months (look for a down blanket instead). I ordered the king size for my queen bed along with a feather/down topper. I have had no problems sleeping at night and even my husband claims he wakes up now refreshed and ready to go even after a 12 hour day at work. I highly recommend this product and Overstock! Expect it to smell when it first arrives, give it a chance to air out. A little Fabreeze if needed. Fluff often, rotate often, and keep it in a duvet cover to keep it clean. I love this purchase. The product consists of fine quality materials, and I definitely feel I received more than my money's worth on this purchase. Customer service was excellent and the delivery occurred much sooner than anticipated. I loved this comforter the very first time I used it - and every night ever since. I've had it for nearly 6 months. It's warm as can be. I used it all winter. Now that the weather is warmer I find it just as comfortable. It's perfect all year. There was no odor that I noticed from the down - as stated in a couple of reviews. The fabric is comfortable but because it's white and dry clean only, I would strongly suggest a duvet cover. Most of the reviews were positive - which assisted me in my purchase choice - yet I don't understand the few that weren't positive. None of the complaints were applicable to the product I received. After a great sleep the first night I came home from work that next day to find my dog and cat on their backs - legs up in the air - enjoying the comforter. They sleep on top of it every night (and day) and with a quick air flick the comforter fluffs up immediately. I can't say enough about how pleased I am. I may buy another one so that the pets can keep the original for themselves! :)

This comforter is so hot and fluffy!! I purchased this in both queen for my son and king for myself and the one thing we both say is "WOW it's so hot and cozy!" It had no odor at all when it arrived and fluffed up to 75% loft within minutes and full loft within a few hours. It's very thick and extremely warm. My husband is in love with this comforter which is saying alot for him as he's very much a *whatever I can throw over me is fine* kind of guy. The down does shift to the outer edges over the course of the week but all it takes is a quick shake of the comforter to even it out and fluff it up. It is very heavy for the snuggle bugs who like to feel *hugged* while they sleep. My only real complaint with this comforter is it is TOO warm for me. My family has just moved from up north to southern FL and I don't doubt for a second that this comforter would be perfect year round in cooler climates but here in FL, it's too warm, and that says alot for me as I'm always the one who is freezing no matter how many blankets I have on the bed. I don't regret getting this comforter one bit and will in fact buy a few more for the other kids beds

hungarian goose down comforter (sshep1, Leominster, MA, 2008-01-12)
 
I decided to purchase this product because I was going to bed with a hat, and socks because I was so cold! I did a lot of online research and decided to purchase this one. I also have a problem with blankets being too heavy on my feet ( broken feet at one time); so after using this now for a couple of weeks; I have been very pleased. No heavy weight on my feet; do not need to wear socks or hat; and, can even wear a summer night gown and stay toasty warm during the night. When I first got under the comforter I could feel the warmth go down from my shoulders to my feet. My husband and I are very happy with this purchase. I did buy a duvet cover because we have a cat that also likes this and I would like to wash the cover as needed.. The baffles keep the down in their pockets and we just fluff up the comforter before entering the bed.. The only "down" side (no pun intended) is that it should be dry cleaned when necessary. I am going to see if there is an alternative way to clean without chemicals. I still give it a 5 star rating because it does what it is supposed to do. I knew about the cleaning before I ordered it.
