The Story Behind the Art:

'My name is Anchalika Chamnan, I come from northern Thailand. My hometown is renowned as a trading town and my family and relatives are involved in different types of trading. Even if embroidery is a traditional skill for the women in our area and everybody can do it, I still need to learn more about patterns to create more interesting pieces. I am glad that we will have the chance to display our work to the world. To show more work is not only a channel for us to earn more, it means we can have the opportunity to support people from our village by offering them more work.'

Just the right size (BeachRedLady, Norfolk, VA, 2008-03-25)

"What a beautiful purse!" This is what I hear from my co-workers and the ladies in the church. I'm NOT a shopper. I usually use one purse for three or four years...until it falls apart. But this beautiful, handmade purse just spoke to me saying "buy me and help a family in Thailand". So, I did. It is just the right size for my wallet, day planner, brush and cell phone. So there isn't a LOT of room for the extraneous stuff that was filling up my previous purse. I highly recommend this product. It is beautifully hand made.

This is such a functional bag for me. I can fit all of my possessions as well as snacks for my kids inside this bag. I am always a bit skeptical to buy a bag without a zipper or snap closure, but I haven't had any problems with my items falling out because of the flap. I love the vibrant colors. It looks especially great when you are dressed all in black...the colors & patterns really stand out. I am not a fan of designer bags, so this fits my personality & lifestyle perfectly. I've received many compliments!

This shoulder bag was a gift for my younger daughter; she is a great collector of purses, shoulder bags, etc. She especially liked the colors and hand work on the design. I would definiely recommend this vendor to my friends and relatives. She would just have liked the shoulder bag to be larger because she usually carries a lot of items in her purse.

Hmong Shoulder Bag (Sandiegobum, Grass Valley, 2008-08-23)

This bag is nice, but I expected it to be made of heavier material. Also, it seems a bit smaller than I thought it would be, and the material is not as thick as I thought it would be. The stiches are very delicate. This bag definately wouldn't tolerate the strains of every day use, which is what I had hoped for.

Handmade bag from Thailand (Peacein08, Los Angeles, CA - USA, 2008-04-28)

It's an amazing bag, I'm soooo happy. Not only are the colors just as vivid as shown, it's better quality than a lot of bags I've bought from big stores lately - for a lot more $! And I feel good about purchasing something that I know is helping out a small community.
